Optimal dredge efficiency

Apart from pump capacity, production of excavated soil is primarily governed by draghead visor width, penetration depth and trailing speed. Economic and technical considerations mandate the widest possible draghead consistent with other operational factors. Optimal dredge efficiency at minimal lifetime cost is the key factor in the design challenge.

The IHC draghead

The IHC draghead in its simplest form consists of a fixed part connected to the suction pipe and a self-adjusting visor. It is multi-purpose and suitable for excavating all soils from silt to compact sand and gravel.

The Californian draghead

The California draghead consists of a fixed part and two independently self-adjusting visors that increase the erosion effect as a result of the extended length of bottom contact. It is most suitable for coarse sand and gravel. Draghead pipe connection diameters vary from 300 to 1400mm. The range of options is extensive.

The Wild Dragon® draghead

The integrated design, in which the sizes and positions of cavities, cutting hardware and jets are finely tuned to optimize the sediment-softening qualities of the device, turned the Wild Dragon® into a success. Thorough studies of cutting in water beds demonstrated that double rows of cutting teeth, with water jets fitted ingeniously into those teeth, would do the job best.
