In 2004, IHC Merwede started its own production facility in Guangzhou in the province of Guangdong, with the resulting capacity being used for the production of heavy industrial dredging components for the local Chinese market, as well as for export to IHC Merwede in the Netherlands. This approach has allowed IHC Merwede to safeguard the high quality of its specialised and innovative designs.

In recent months, a factory was opened for heavy industrial construction that is capable of handling at least 2,000 tons of steel a year. Large overhead cranes (250 tons and 500 tons) are available for transport and loading.
